Stephen was quickly drawn out of his reverie by the movement of the foxes, a bigger Jolteon growling at the other Pokemon, which caused them to stop playing. Taking that as a hint that the class was going to begin soon, he left the paper on the teacher's desk and scurried away to find a desk to sit in. The class had filled in almost all the way, leaving a single desk vacant. It was in the front, which he really didn't mind and so he sat down with Batista sitting to the side of the desk.
"Batista, don't sit in the aisle, the professor might try and walk through." he whispered. The weasel scoffed, before climbing up the metal siding and plopped down on the desk itself, drawing a sigh from Stephen. Batista turned slightly and gave him a cheesy smile. Silly thing.
The boy's suspicions had been correct as Professor Drescher soon got up from his desk, carrying what looked like notebooks and a small pencil case. The new student accepted the items with a nod and a "thank you", as the professor continued his way around the room. Opening the case, he took a pen out and wrote his name on the notebook. Stephen wondered how much he had missed and if catching up would be something doable. It was then, that Drescher began speaking, Stephen giving the older trainer his full attention. As if his mind was being read, the last class was addressed, but since he wasn't here, he knew that he fell into that latter category, and would just do what he could once he started.
Stephen shouldn't have been surprised about a paired assignment, but at the same time....he wasn't looking forward to it. He was very much an independent worker and the idea of a partner made him uneasy. From his experiences, people tended to slack more when they were working in groups and that led to one person doing much more work that half. Being new, he couldn't think like that though, he needed to be positive. Maybe he'd get a great partner and luck would be on his side.
As the professor went through the matchups, Stephen's ear perked at his name and then the name of his partner. Brooke. Turning his head lightly, since he was in the front, Stephen noticed that there were quite a few girls in this class, and he could not be sure which one was the one that he was partnered with. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all. Not that anything besides their assignment would be taking place, but at least he was getting a chance to meet some new people. That was the point, right? Looking to his weasel, Stephen smiled.
"Well, guess we are all set." he said, stroking Batista's head. The Buizel chirped in agreement, also looking around at the different Pokemon that were in the classroom. Many of them, they had never seen before.
