TRAINER GIFT/TALENT
CALL OF THE WILD
Sinclair has a certain knack for bonding with and understanding wild things, and because of this - pokemon in the wild are more likely to be drawn to him. This ability does not calm or sooth, but it does make it easier for him to gain a freshly caught pokemon's trust, and it makes it easier for him to form friendly relationships with those pokemon that are left on their own in the wilds around the school and makes him less likely to be randomly attacked.
History
Sinclair was one of those children that was always seen as 'difficult'. Hyper active, too intelligent for his own good and with the sort of personality that pushed limits even if he knew he shouldn't. His parents were at a loss, they just didn't know how to deal with this sort of child and therefore, they swiftly decided that they wouldn't and merely went about the living of their own lives while leaving Sinclair pretty much on his own. Oh, he wasn't abused - per se. They didn't beat him, they manged to feed him...it was just that they had their lives and they made it clear that there wasn't room in it for a child as troublesome as he was. The only thing he ever did 'right' it seemed, was to catch his first pokemon by the age of eleven - though even that was only a small thing as his own parents had very little interest in pokemon or the training of them.
Sinclair, of course, was fascinated by them - and though his parents deemed it a senseless waste of time, he quickly began to try to teach himself how to properly train them, starting with that first pokemon - Titan. It was surprising how quickly they bonded, but soon Titan was just as protective of Sinclair as the trainer was of the gligar.Which was perhaps a good thing as often times Sinclair found himself headed towards trouble of the more serious variety, especially when it came to his jaunts out in the woods. Of course, no actual /training/ took place as really, Sinclair had no idea what he was doing. Now, many would wonder what a boy of his age was doing just roaming in the wilderness...but his parents didn't care, so really why should anyone else. So when he wasn't in school, that's what he did, and he eventually became passable enough to get accepted into his first /real/ academy. A small, local school that specialized in the sort of teachings that would see Sin well on his way to becoming a proper trainer.
With these schools, though, came additional troubles as it would soon be revealed that their teachings weren't so very different from the so-called 'regular' schools he'd previously gone to. After all, Sinclair's energetic approach to life often made it difficult for him to remain interested in any single thing for long - the boy needing several things to occupy him at once. Plus, there were those tests to consider. He couldn't say why exactly but he just felt utterly /frozen/ by multiple choice exams, and he also couldn't help but feel disappointed in the lack of hands-on contact with their pokemon - the pokemon seeming to be more like show pieces than anything else. This was something Sinclair detested, and he made it obvious - his sneering contempt for his teachers a source of agitation for the adults.
It was this contempt that drove him to getting himself expelled from this first school, and it was this lack of understanding in teaching staff that saw him getting flunked out of several others. In fact, soon enough Sinclair had come to terms with the fact that it wasn't likely he would stay anywhere for long. At least one good thing came out of all of this - the acquisition of his beloved Sneasel, Amaryllis. Other than that, though, school was just turning out to be one giant disappointment...and just proving him to be as 'worthless' as his parents clearly thought he was. After all, though they paid little mind to anything positive he did, they had no trouble berating him for being a bad student. One year, it was even suggested that he stay back...and wasn't that just the most shameful thing ever.
Still, he kept trying to find a school that was right for him, but honestly, at the age of sixteen, he'd begun to give up hope and merely chose to keep as much up with his training outside of school as he could. Perhaps it was beneficial to him that he was a good self-teacher, because certainly his pokemon didn't suffer for it. Certainly it was a bonding experience, even though Sinclair really wanted to learn how to properly train them. His hopes on that front were dwindling though...at least, they were until the letter arrived from the Master's Academy. Now, what the school was thinking accepting a student like him - well neither he nor his parents could guess. But the Van Etten's couldn't say that he'd be missed, for however long he lasted at such a place, and Sinclair...well, for the first time in a long time he felt hopeful. It was a school some distance away from his home, a place where students stayed away. Maybe this time, things would be different. Of course, Sinclair doubted it...but he figured this was likely his last chance before he just had to drop out and figure something else out for himself to do what he what he wanted, so he jumped on it.
Personality Points
Mischeivous/Prankster - Though his pranks are usually harmless, he does enjoy causing a bit of mayhem with them.
Energetic - This boy seems to never stop, whether it's mentally or physically. Sometimes it might seem a bit exhausting to watch him, but never fear - Sinclair doesn't feel any of that as he's quite happy being the way he is.
Kind-hearted (especially towards pokemon) - His heart is in the right place, especially when it comes to the pokemon (whether his own or others'), and though he can often say the wrong thing, he genuinely doesn't mean to upset anyone.
Care-free - He has the attitude of one without a care in the world, seeming to go through life without a worry or a care weighing him down. This is a personality trait perceived by others, but one Sinclair makes a point of letting other's see as it keeps people at the distance he thinks is appropriate.
OCD - Things need to be done a certain way, and it occasionally makes him incapable of bending to what others might think is best suited. This can often cause him to question, and to even argue - certainly this trait has gotten him into plenty of trouble in the past, but he really can't help it.
Literal - When it comes to tests, Sinclair is a very literal minded boy and as such he just can't be satisfied with a 'basic' answer and often finds himself having to go well and truly beyond simply circling a letter of what answer might be appropriate. This is what causes the trouble with Sinclair in his education as 99% of the time, teachers don't want quality they want quantity - which urks Sinclair to no end. And he'll often say so.
Combatative - When someone he cares about is upset, Sinclair's temper will become prevalent and he will go into 'attack' mode. He's not shy about fist-fighting, and he's actually learned to be pretty good at it as when he was younger he was often bullied at school because of his poor grades. As a result, he doesn't tolerate the bullying of others, at all, and makes quick work of those that do - and he's not afraid to use his size to his advantage.
Loyal (earned) - If you're one of the rare people that Sinclair lets in enough to befriend him, you will not find a more loyal or true friend. He will be supportive, a good listener, and will do his best by you as he's simply not the sort that actually tends to have a lot of friends, despite his seemingly out-going nature. He's also an incredibly affectionate friend, prone to hugs (if you're female), and claps on the back (if you're male).
Inquisitive - Sometimes this boy has too many questions for his own good, and in fact this has been a source of great frustration for teachers in the past as they often were not equipped to handle the intensity of these questions or such an interactive learner. Though this was an inadequacy on the teachers' part, the schools and his parents, seem convinced that Sinclair's the one that's inadequate - but that doesn't stop his almost constant need to question.
Very Highly Intelligent - Sinclair is a bright boy. A very bright boy, despite what other schools might claim. He just doesn't test well as often times the tests don't allow him to be as thorough as he feels he must be.
Dominant - Sinclair is very much a Type A personality. He's strong minded, willfull, and can sometimes come across as a bit bossy and pushy. Most times, he doesn't bother to concern himself with these tendancies of his as he can't help it if often his personality tends to mow down those that stand in his way. Some times, though these times /are/ rare, someone will approach him in a manner that makes him realize that being too pushy is not the way to be so he /will/ watch it.
Respectful - This is a conditional personality trait as he believes that respect isn't something just given, but earned. However, if you earn it...then he is indeed capable of showing proper respect. This won't stop him from being inquisitive, of course, but he will make a conscious effort to not be so rude about how those questions are voiced.
Pokemon Info
Of average size for one of his breed, Titan's colorations are varying shades of blue, grey and white with hints of a pinkish-purple at his ears, the tip of his tail, on his nose and around his mouth and at the base of his bat-like wings.
Titan considers himself the Protector - and both watches after his Sinclair and his Amaryllis dilligently. He's seen his Sinclair get hurt far too many times to immediately trust other humans, and can often be seen keeping what he deems a 'safe' distance from others so he can be on the watch for the sort of behavior that might require him reacting with agression. Of course, he's rarely ever senselessly agressive, and he does what his Sinclair says...so usually he backs off pretty quickly at his Sin's command, even if he's not entirely thrilled about it.
She has a rich purple coat with pink and gold at the tufts of her ears, and on the feather-like extensions of her tail. She's a bit smaller than average, but that doesn't seem to bother her any, and she has glittering amber eyes and a glittering reddish-pink jewel where her 'third eye' is located.
Amaryllis is a sweet-natured, friendly girl. She tends to trust easily, and though she is fiercely loyal to her Sinclair, this doesn't stop her from being social and making friends elsewhere. She's not shy about this either, often wandering away from her trainer before he knows quite what she's done, and heading off in the direction of new sights, sounds and smells - a cheery grin on her face. Of course, she's quick to make it up to her Sinclair for making him worry, as she's an affectionate thing to be sure, and is most fond of being wrapped around her trainer's back like a backpack - a thing that's not nearly as awkward as it sounds.
