Field Studies Morning Class- Eins, Partnering Up (Open)

[Christof Drescher]

  It was another day, and indeed Christof was very thoughtful as he sat at his desk. So deep in thought, that he only absently noticed that Chlori had settled herself near the door.  He was certain he could guess the Leafeon's intentions.  She had taken quite a liking to a certain student of his, though he wasn't quite sure why it was hardly a matter to question. Pokèmon liked who they liked, same as humans; it wasn't for him to really question the driving forces behind such things.  

   There was time yet before class started, and Christof was mentally preparing himself.  Today he intended to have them do an in class exercise. Truth be told, though he was certain the things he had to teach his students were quite important, he didn't really care to hear himself talking so much.  Despite what some might have thought, Christof didn't delight in the sound of his own voice, but sadly, speech was pretty much the only way to get through to a group of students, at least in regards to some matters.  He vastly preferred the classes where they exercised what they knew, and settled in to a situation where they could do some real thinking, at their own respective paces. 

    Since the students had yet to arrive, Cerberus and Nephthyus took it upon themselves to play a game of extreme bitey face, quite pleased to make a ruckus while it was allowed.  The Flareon, and Vaporeon (respectively), though bordering on the verge of rough housing, paid careful mind not to encroach on the personal space of the two highest ranking members of their pack.  Nitro, and Shattenblitz had decided they would lay themselves in front of Christof's desk, and groom themselves absently.  That only left the Espeon, Aphrodite had set herself, somewhat queen like, where she could keep an eye on all the proceedings with the males of her pack that were currently present. She never really could get the appeal of the rough and tumble games that Cerberus and Nephthyus... well really most of the other pokèmon of her pack... liked to engage in.

[Sinclair Van Etten]

He'd awakened in a state of panic...a state that had him waking up considerably earlier than he actually likely needed to. Today was a morning class, and that meant that what time he'd spent on his previous class's assignment hadn't been enough and that it was still therefore not finished to Sinclair's particular liking. It was just that there was so much information that he felt was important in regards to Titan and the behaviors of his kind...so much that he doubted he'd even be able to do the pokemon breed justice even if there was enough time. But still, Sinclair had tried - sitting at his desk with his hair standing on end and a spare pencil in his teeth as he'd begun to process of hastily mapping out their breeding season, in addition to trying to scrawl down details about what sort of 'prey' they preferred to hunt and whether they hunted in groups or solo, and how one might be able to catch one without accidentally causing the gligar a harm. 


Of course, by the time he realized that this class was a Fields Studies class and not Conditioning and Environmental studies, it was too late to go back to bed and try to snag a nap before heading in. And besides, Sinclair was at least lucky in the fact that he generally had a surplus of energy anyway - so he'd still be good to go. Not that it was much comfort as the urge to skip this class to finish what he'd been doing was still fairly strong. It was difficult having to organize different tasks, and there just didn't ever seem to be enough time in the day for him to be as thorough as he wanted...and as he finally wandered into class - still a good fifteen minutes early - there was the gloom of disappointment hanging over him as he wondered briefly why he was even trying. 


He sighed, glancing to Titan who was hovering by his human's head, and then reached up to absently pat one of Amaryllis's paws as she clung to his back - making it so Sinclair had to carry his actual backpack slung over one shoulder. Now, it was true that Sin wasn't the most outdoorsy of boys. This didn't mean he didn't enjoy these kinds of activities, because in actuality, he did and enjoyed them quite a bit. It just meant that he hadn't had all that much practice. There had been a camping trip when he was younger, with some scout organization or another, that had resulted in the capture of his gligar - but that had pretty much been it. But still, he'd read the course agenda and knew what was expected of him. So along with his notebooks and other various implements that Christof had provided, Sinclair had with him a couple of bottles of water, some nuts and other high protein field snacks in case whatever the teacher had planned was more arduous than one might think. It was essential, after all, to be prepared when one could. His clothes, of course, were outdoor appropriate as well, though were thankfully comfortable enough to also just wear around the school - thankfully because it was soon quite apparent that his preparations would be unnecessary as he noted that the few other students that were already present were dressed the way one would for any other day and were either absently flicking through holophones or whatever other type of technology they might have on hand. 


Great, now didn't he just feel stupid? His jaw clenched, eyes narrowing a bit as they concentrated on a spot of wall somewhere on the other side of the classroom to mask any sense of embarrassment he might have felt. At least his 'outdoor' clothes were casual enough that they could pass for just something he might want to wear - but he still couldn't shake the feeling that he was being stared at as he casually wandered into class. It was habit for Sinclair to be self-conscious, and though he did an excellent job of pretending like he wasn't, he felt such things all too keenly. Keenly enough that Titan and Amaryllis frowned their worry to each other over Sinclair's head before the Sneasel slipped down to the floor to walk beside her trainer rather than cling. 


Sinclair paused just inside of the door, glancing down at the leafeon waiting by the entry, and perhaps despite himself he grinned. "Were you waiting for me?", he asked the eon, crouching down for a moment to give the pretty girl scritches and pets - if she accepted them - as he couldn't help but feel such a sweet pokemon deserved proper attention. After a bit though, he did stand, his gaze darting about to see if there was anyone he was familiar with present. It occurred to him that if that irritating blond kid wasn't there yet, he soon would be, but he tried to brush such thoughts off and merely stood, offering Chlori a few more pets before making his way over to the same desk he'd occupied previously - front and center with the teacher's desk.

His lips twitched subtly, jaw clenching and unclenching as the all too familiar sense of edginess settled in, but soon enough gave at least the appearance of one who was relaxed enough to be sitting - slouching down in his seat and sticking one long leg out slightly to the side with one arm loosely bent and resting on his desk's top. Amaryllis didn't immediately rush to Sinclair's side - unlike Titan who quickly settled atop the nearest desk to his human, wanting to be as close as possible to the trainer while giving Christof a somewhat standoffish look as he didn't feel that the teacher had earned the right to be trusted yet. Amaryllis though, well, she wanted the pretty leafeon to come along and sit with them - and it was likely clear from the expectant way she waited for the pretty pokemon near the door, her head tilted to the side. "Will you sit with us today too?", Amaryllis asked hopefully, the feathers on her tail twitching lightly.

It was one of Ylva's typical mornings. The alarm clock goes off and her fist drives into the top of it, her snoring form flopping onto her back and beginning to drift back to sleep. It would have been successful had it not been for Lariat's blasted wake up call. His powerful grumble and ever stronger arms pulled her out of bed and onto the hard floor. "Thanks... Thanks a lot you lumbering butt-head..." She rolled up and looked at the alarm clock. She had an hour... she would have had less time to get ready if she had fallen back to sleep... so she was honestly thankful for the Pokemon's watchfulness. She got up and grabbed her bag, flinging it over her shoulder and calling Lariat into his ball "I know you don't like it, but you're a large Pokemon, I'll let you out of your ball if Mr. Drescher allows it, OK?" The ball shook a little bit, and with that, she walked out of her room and locked the door behind her.

She pulled a banana out of her bag and ate it on the way to class. Keeping a light jog, she observed several other people and Pokemon walking about, she stared a lot but was relatively harmless, just curious.. and a bit nervous. She tended to drift into thought sometimes and was susceptible to missing some details, rather important ones as well from time to time. Her ball shook some with the impatient Lariat wanting to break free. She smacked it lightly and it stopped for a moment, only making him more agitated. "He'll get over it" Ylva was fine though, until she saw a ghost Pokemon. Of course, the Pokemon wasn't actually there, but Ylva turned in fear from the hallucinated Haunter and ran as fast as she could towards her class. Lariat shook the ball, feeling his trainer's sense of urgency and fear. She dodged student's with ease as her blood raced, filled with adrenaline. The ghost was gone from her imagination now, and the only thing over her shoulder now was the estranged look some other people gave her. Slowing down, but still in a fast strut, Ylva shook her head some and took a drink of water from her bottle, sweating a little. She always has those, and you'd figured that she would be able to tell the difference between real and hallucination by now.

She thought to herself before she barged through the doors of the classroom. Slowing down a little to late and narrowly missing a Flareon and Vaporean playing. "Oh! Sorry you two!" She apologized swiftly, bowing her head to the teacher and sitting in the front corner seat, close to the window and away from the door. Her ball still rocked in a concerned pace. Lariat wanted to break out of the ball, but just gave up when Ylva patted the ball lightly. The short girl looked to the teacher and smiled a bit "Good Morning Mr. Drescher. I hope I'm not late." and gave a short nod to another student she missed when she came in through the room

   He hated class, really hated class. The physical classes were difficult for the smaller and rather awkward boy, and the academic ones weren't much better.  This class in particular was painful.  Drescher always made them write things out, and Zayne hated writing.  Actually, there weren't many things in this world that he didn't object to. With his hand gently gripped by Sterben, he made his way in to the class room, with Creeper following not far behind.  

    The Banette's eyes were glowing their dull red, as he walked alongside his child. Sterben was feeling rather pleased today, maybe pleased enough that he wouldn't encourage his child to cause trouble. It wasn't very likely though, and even if it was, it wasn't like the one walking next to him didn't get into trouble on his own accord.  The animated plushie was quite certain that he'd be able to keep his child away from that strange kid with the Sableye. Yeah, he remembered Ransom's name, that didn't mean he had to think of him as anything more than 'the kid'.  It was a good thing for the kid that his pokèmon was a dark as well as ghost, or Sterben might have made a point to drive that kid away from his child. Well no matter, they would avoid him, and things would be normal today. At least, that's what he thought. 

   Creeper, wisely kept quiet as he followed after Zayne and the often volatile Sterben. It didn't take much to set the ghost to punishing his Mr. Mime compatriot, though at the very least, when the other was putting the psychic in his place', at least he wasn't disciplining Zayne. So, he made his way to his seat, which was right behind Sinclair's.  He didn't like the especially large boy.  No, Sinclair made him uneasy, being so big and menacing; as such, Zayne pondered further taking it upon himself to make sure the other boy understood the way of things.  It would have been nice though, if Eloise or Marci had this class with him. It was always nice having Goliath's strength as back up when dealing with someone who had a dark type.

   Taking his seat, Zayne suppressed the urge to sigh.  Sinclair wasn't the only unpleasant thing on his mind. Opening his backpack, he pulled out his notebook to set it on the top of his desk. He hated writing, and soon he'd have to turn in another stupid assignment, an assignment he hadn't really completed.  As Sterben climbed into the seat next to his own, and Creeper settled himself on the floor right in front of Sterben's seat, so he could lean back against it, he took some pleasure in the fact that he had a little dose of revenge with him.  Drescher didn't like his Mr. Mime; he became uneasy and anxious when Creeper was around.  Of course, most wouldn't entirely recognize it, Drescher was good at hiding it, but he could tell by the way Sterben and Creeper reacted to the German, that this was the case.

"Ungh..." Giggles was pulling her blanket off. She'd already hit snooze four or five times but, apparently, he hadn't gotten the message that she wanted to SLEEP! She gently swatted at his nose to see if that would make him go away, but he simply put his teeth around her fingers and gently bit down. She shot up like she'd been hit with charge. "What was that for???" He quickly let go, but she could see a twinkle of triumph in his eyes. He pointedly looked at the alarm clock before rousing Tiny for the day. She had about twenty minutes to get dressed and get to class. Shit. Guess I can't be late for the first day...

He couldn't help but find it funny. His Brooke was always late, and it always fell to him to make sure she wasn't on important days. Sure, most wouldn't see their first class at a new school to be all that great, but Giggles understood where they were how difficult it was to get in, especially in the middle of the year. He turned only to see her putting on a short plaid skirt and tiny black t-shirt. "Must you really wear that?" Sure, she'd only hear his growl of disapproval, but he chided her anyways. He wouldn't allow these human males to take advantage of her, but it would make his job a lot easier if she didn't wear such things.

She turned only to see Giggles staring at her skirt pointedly. "Oh, so now you wanna start picking out my clothes too? Well, that's not gonna happen boy, sorry." Brooke chuckled a bit before opening up her backpack so Tiny could ride in it. The small shinx hopped right in and made herself comfortable among her blanket and Brooke's laptop before poking her large head out. "This'll be your last ride in there girl, so you might want to enjoy it." The shinx's small whine of displeasure made her grin as she left the room with Giggles at her heels. 

She made it to class with a few minutes to spare, long blonde hair swaying to the middle of her back as she burst into the room. Brooke didn't understand why she was in this class, but field studies seemed interesting enough, so it couldn't be all bad. She entered only to see a small boy sit down with his bannette. She knew what the pokemon was, as she'd seen documentaries on them, but she had never thought to see one in person. Among the other students, there was the girl with the aggron, Ylva, and another boy with a gligar. She sat next to Ylva and placed her open bag on the desk. "Hey!" She extended the the girl a friendly greeting as Tiny popped out of the backpack and scampered off. 

Tiny was surprised to pop her head out of the backpack only to see sooo many new pokemon! And two of them were even playing! It looked fun! She immediately hopped out of the bag and into the fray, tumbling with the flareon and vaporeon wrestling on the floor. "I'm gonna getcha!" To the humans in the room, it was a playful growl thrown in just as she hopped in the middle of the game of bitey face, hoping to turn it into a much rougher game.

Giggles sat himself stoically next to his trainer. Brooke didn't pay the small kit any mind, she could get herself out of trouble and the large houndoom would keep watch. His protective bubble no longer only held her, but Tiny as well.

[Christof Drescher]

   As students began to pour in, Christof set a pen down on the modern 'desk'. Without much concern he absently adjusted the light levels in the classroom, darkening it only by a bit, but enough that the Gliger that came in with Mr. Van Etten might be more at ease. This was done wordlessly, as he checked over his list of students. He knew he had a few new ones in the mix, but that did happen. They would simply have to be caught up, and honestly, pairing them up would give them some chance to do that. 

   "Good morning. No Miss Mandara, you aren't late", he offers in his typical, somewhat prim tones. He certainly wasn't known for being warm and friendly with the students.  Still, the girl had greeted him, he wouldn't be so rude as to refuse to do the same in turn. He did wonder absently about her subtly flustered appearance, but then he never really had come to understand women... at least not the human sort. 

   Chlori was quite pleased to see Sinclair again. She liked this boy, he was clearly the kind sort. So she happily accepted the attention, and happily fell into step along side Amaryllis. 

   "I would like that very much", the Leafeon offers softly, reaching over to offer a gentle, affectionate nudge to the Sneasel. With that invitation extended, she would follow along.  Of course, the distress of the human boy was noted, and once he was settled in his seat, Chlori would lay down, laying her chin over his feet. If the Sneasel settled in against her, she would instead groom the smaller pokèmon after Sinclair had been given some time to settle. 

    Seeing Mr. Maddox wasn't in and of itself disconcerting, he was well aware of why the boy was at the academy, and wasn't troubled by such facts.  However, he was not so pleased to see the Mr. Mime that accompanied him. Many would have found it beyond odd that he had come to face with pokèmon that easily could have killed him on accident with a misplaced step or swing of a tail, or that he was not the least bit disturbed by the Banette, a pokèmon well known to be malicious towards humans and had no problem with it... Yet, the sight of the Mr. Mime, had his heart rate kicking up.  Of course, he wasn't about to show such weakness in front of the student, so he outwardly he remained calm.  Distracting himself by noting the attendance of those students who had arrived early, the instructor silently reminded himself that even if the Mr. Mime... dubbed 'Creeper' no less, as if it needed help being any more unnerving, even if he decided to cause trouble, his pokèmon were more than capable of keeping things from getting out of control 

   Shattenblitz, being the dark type of the group easily picked himself up to pad over to their trainer, and set his head in the German's lap in silent support. The scritches he was offered were certainly an appreciated award. Christof may fool his students on a regular basis, but his pokèmon knew precisely how he felt around any Mr. Mime. Nitro, for his part, wasn't bothered by the other pokèmon receiving attention.  The Jolteon was hardly the jealous type.  Besides, he had other things to capture his attention. His eyes narrows as the Shinx boldly charged at his packmates. He offered only an absent snort, not caring for the lack of manners, but seeing as Cerberus and Nephthyus weren't likely to mind, he didn't offer any further reprimand.

     Cerberus and Nephthyus certainly didn't mind, though they did pause a moment to sniff at the new pokèmon.  There wasn't much time before class, and they knew that Christof would want them to settle at that point, but for now, a few gentle nips, and a warm Flareon snout trying to flip her onto her side were offered. Shinx were felines, that meant they had pretty sharp claws, and could use them in play, but they were both 'big boys' they could take it. 

    Aphrodite couldn't help but twitch both ends of her forked tail. They hardly needed someone else encouraging that sort of play.  Well, there was nothing to do for it, especially if Nitro didn't see fit to put an end to it.  Dainty paws carried her along the classroom, studying the various students and their pokèmon.

[Ransom Takahashi]

Ransom was neither running late, nor was he what might have constituted a new student - even if he might feel that way given that this would be an entirely different mix of students then the afternoon class he'd taken previously. It was just that, given his schedule, he'd had to do a bit of juggling and because he'd been aware that this was one of the courses that was mandatory he'd simply had to squeeze it in by putting it in the one time slot that he actually had free. After all, while Ransom was one to like to keep busy, he didn't like to keep so busy that he had no time to himself - even if that time was generally spent alone.

But at at least he wasn't new so he knew that he would be expected to be there on time precisely, and thankfully - despite the early hour of the course - he was one of those people that would have no troubles doing so as he was generally one of those rare 'morning' people. So like any other morning, Ransom took a moment to stretch luxuriously in his bed before hopping into the shower and then getting dressed. He was able to take his time through breakfast - a meal that was eaten in relative quiet and definite solitude as usually no one sat with him or even bothered to invite him to sit with them. There had only been one person to do that, and well...as much as Ransom would have liked to have seen him, it hadn't been so.

Once breakfast was finished and a single cup of very black, and very much unsweetened coffee was consumed while Forsythe enjoyed his meal of semi-precious stones and other gems that the cafeteria had kindly provided for the sableye - and then he was headed off to class, feeling refreshed, just full enough and oddly trepidatious. He hated being in situations where he might walk into a room full of people, and give that crowd a good opportunity to study him. And knowing this, Forsythe made certain to keep his arm raised to the appropriate level so he could have his hand firmly gripped by his human's - though soon that would grow tiring enough that eventually Ransom would simply bend down and pick him up to place him on his shoulders, like a toddler.

Forsythe liked it best when Ransom did that, not just because it was fun being so far above most people, but also because it gave him a good view of those that they approached or approached them. It allowed him to get a sense of what others' intent might be towards his shy, sweet human and helped him be prepared to show those people the way of things should they try to bring harm to Ransom. Oh, Forsythe was no bully and in fact was quite a peaceful, diplomatic pokemon when he had a mind to be. But if someone hurt what was his, then they simply had to pay and that was that. Kenji, Ransom's Sofu, had taught him that. He'd been keeping those that sought to upset the boy at bay since Ransom was a mere child, and he wasn't about to stop doing so any time soon. 


Ransom paused just outside of the doorway, the grip on his backpack's straps tightening just a bit in preparation for that momentary unpleasantness of walking in before he could find his seat in the middle of the room and just blend in. Forsythe, feeling that tension, glanced down at the top of Ransom's head and lightly slipped clawed fingers into the human's hair before playfully ruffling it - making a bit of it stand on end. Ransom looked up then, and grinned...which was exactly what Forsythe had been hoping for...and then finally took those first few steps into the class room. 


The first glance he darted was towards Mr. Drescher, a quick smile and a polite nod given , and then there was that awkward moment when he had to pause and actually scan the room to see where he might be able to find a seat. A slight frown marred his brow as he did this, though if anyone looked back at him he'd at least smile politely, even if they weren't looking for any really good reason. It wasn't until his eyes landed on the familiar face and bright blond hair of Zayne that his disposition brightened considerably, even as he also turned to acknowledge the banette that accompanied the other boy everywhere and then peered with brief curiosity over at the Mr. Mime too. The smile that curved his lips was instant and warm, though it might surprise most people in that classroom that anyone could feel warmly towards Zayne, and he approached the other without thinking about what the consequences of such a thing might be.  


"Hey.", Ransom said in somewhat shy and quiet tones. "Does anyone sit in the desk next to you?" He blinked, head canting slightly to the side as he waited for an answer. And as he waited, Forsythe took the opportunity to climb down Ransom with ease - his light form hardly causing the very solid human to twitch - and then wandered over to the banette, his gaze solemn despite the subtle hint of a smile curving his own mouth. ~ Sterben. A pleasure to see you again. ~ Forsythe said, before peering around at the other pokemon present. ~ Is this your team-mate? ~

[Stephen Chabet]

Stephen's head was absolutely spinning.

Reporting to school was one thing, and that wasn't so bad. After all, his papa had saved money and worked hard to present him with this opportunity. It was something that Stephen could probably never repay, but his father insisted. Leaving Blastoise was just as hard, but the large turtle was even pushier in terms of the boy leaving and going to school. They both wanted more for him, and he would not, under any circumstances, let them down. It would break their hearts, and he knew that.

The boy had barely been on the campus for two minutes before information was unloaded on him.
Dorm registrations. Lunch schedules. Credits necessary for first year students. Faculty adviser. It was almost too much, and the boy was ready to scream when a school official took him to the side and offered him something to eat, knowing that the boy had just come off a very long flight. Gobbling the bagel with cream cheese and probably looking like a Grumpig while doing it, the boy's cheeks flushed slightly when he burped. The official waved it off, before handing the teen a bottle of water.

When Stephen was good with the food and drink, the official took it a little slower, going through each of the pieces of the packet that he had been given. While it was a lot of information, the slower pace and explanations helped a lot more and soon Stephen didn't feel as overwhelmed.

"Now, I know you just got here, but we actually expected you yesterday, and your first class is going to begin in about five minutes. Your professor was sent an email about half an hour ago, so don't worry about showing up late. Take your time and get over to the building. When you get there, give him this paper. It is a Field Studies class with Professor Drescher. Not to worry, all of our teachers are great. Okay?" she asked, Stephen simply nodding in response.

He took the paper from her hand and looked at it, noticing that it was a simple transfer admit form. It looked like there was a space for the professor to sign it, and return it to the administrator to show that Stephen had attended the class like he was supposed to.

The official let him go, giving him rough instructions on how to get to class. Still feeling a little overwhelmed, Stephen took one of the dive balls out of his pocket and pressed the latch, releasing his Buizel, Batista.

Chirping in greeting, the weasel looked around, confused. Where were they?
"Come Batista, we can't be later than we already are." he said, pushing the weasel in the correct direction. All the smells were weird to the water Pokemon, and even though he liked to explore, the water type could see that his trainer was nervous, and decided to not cause any trouble today. Give Stephen a break and all that jazz.

Fortunately, it wasn't far to the classrooms and the directions that he had been given were pretty much right on the money. All he needed to do was find the correct room. Looking up at the door frames as he walked, he passed by each incorrect one before finally seeing the one he needed. Taking a deep breath, he stepped into the room with his Pokemon at his side and watched as strange faces turned to face him, taking him in. Likely judging him in one way or another. He started towards the Professor to give him the paper before his eyes settled on the Vaporeon that was playing with the Flareon and the Shinx cub. It was absolutely gorgeous. The scales on its tail were shining, as if freshly polished.

Without even noticing it, Stephen stopped mid-step and was just looking at the fox, no doubt bringing a chuckle to some of the other students in the room at the boy's odd behavior.

Other students began to file in, the class room rapidly beginning to fill up and making Sinclair's 'personal' space grow smaller and smaller - a thing that he had to say he didn't much care for. Apparently Titan didn't either, the gligar giving an agitated twitch of his wings as he glared down a female student that dared to try to take the desk he was perching on for herself. Certainly Mr. Drescher had kindly turned the lights down so the poor nocturnal pokemon could feel less ill at ease, but that didn't mean he was so comfortable that he was about to give up his perch. Especially not when it was so near his Sinclair. The girl fidgeted a bit, looked to Sinclair for aid but unfortunately for her...Sinclair wasn't paying attention and she was left to either find a seat for herself elsewhere or try to take the desk from Titan anyway. Perhaps wisely, the girl chose to find a seat elsewhere, leaving the gligar the clear victor and proudly proclaiming such by the way his little chest puffed out and the hairs along it stood out a bit. 

Amethyst just sighed a bit, even as she shifted a bit around Sinclair's feet so she could settle with Chlori - though she had to shuffle a bit more as apparently her human had decided to lean over and rifle around in his backpack for something - no doubt in the hopes of keeping his hands or even just his mind occupied as classroom time, in general, wasn't usually pleasant for him. A little tongue peeked out, raking affectionately along Chlori's fur so she could groom the pretty leafeon in turn, and then cuddle in close next to her new friend. Her head nestled down against her front paws, eyes slipping almost half-shut as today, apparently, was a day for her to be mellow - at least until they were outside in the fresh air and sunshine - and she wouldn't move again until the rhythmic tapping of something on the desk's top could be heard above. The sound made her ears flick, the feathered bits at the end of her tail wriggling energetically but still she didn't move as that was apparently all the desire for motion she could muster. 


Sinclair himself focused his attention towards the head of the class, his gaze absently settled on some point near the head of a male student that wandered in. In truth, it probably seemed like he was staring but Sinclair's mind wasn't actually in it. He barely even saw the kid as his mind moved a mile a minute, moving methodically from one topic of thought to the next as the end of his pencil rhythmically, and speedy struck the desk. He couldn't help the fact that he was a boy meant to be kept in motion, and though he knew very well that he had to sit still in class, that didn't mean he couldn't somehow keep himself occupied. Soon though, that tapping wasn't enough and he would - as in his previous class with this professor - settle the pencil at the very top of the slanted desk top and then allow it roll down to the bottom, and catch it in his open palm. It was a process that he'd repeat, something soothing in the rickety sound, but other than that methodical rolling of pencil he wouldn't show any other signs of really paying mind to anyone else around him as he knew for a fact that it was just better that way.

[Marci St. Pierre]

Punctuality had never been on the top of Marci's to do list, and so nothing was different today as she prepared for class at her own pace. Behind her Mjorn sat crouched on the bed, a pile of blankets pulled up around him in a makeshift nest. The hunched zoroark blinked slowly at his abusive trainer, blue eyes devoid of any emotions. They were an excellent pair, subservient, cruel at times, and both lacked a fear of consequences. So it was only once Marci was sure she were ready, the teen turned to her pokemon and slung her backpack over her shoulders.

Eventually, they made their way through the hallways and to the classroom where Christof and several other students had already gathered. A ways ahead of her another student walked, seemingly around the same height though it was hard to determine from a distance. Both Marci and Mjorn walked quietly with light footsteps, not caring to draw the attention of someone whom she just assumed would be an overly friendly little twit like many of the other students here. As the burnette boy entered the classroom that the pair were headed for, Mjorn raised a grey paw to nudge his trainer, nodding his head in Stephens direction. Though Mjorn frequently kept her up to date, watchful blue eyes keeping track of things Marci might miss, this was something the unstimulating hallway hadn't distracted her from. Shortly behind him, the pair too entered through the doorway.

Several other students had already gathered and from the entryway Marcis eyes scanned those present. Her gaze swept over the trainers whose presence she cared little about and landed on a top of light blonde, almost white hair. Zayne. Both Sterbin and Creeper were present, much to Mjorns pleasure, as he hadn't been looking forward to socializing with other peoples pokemon no more than Marci was their trainers. The slender, six foot pokemon left his trainers side at a lope, dropping to all fours and skittering toward Zayne and his dark haired friend, he knew where Marci would be headed afterall. Just behind him Marci settled at their table, two seats between the pair so as to give them a bit of privacy. Eloise hadn't said anything against the boy that said with Zayne, and the other 'hound' seemed to enjoy his company considerably. From her seat, Marci took a more careful examination of the room. A nervous student with dark hair spoke with the teacher, without a pokemon that she could see. One boy, dressed as if he were expecting some sort of hike, watched his own pokemon converse with one of the professors. His attire earned an uppity 'tsh' from Marci, whom had dressed considerably different. A loose fitting white T shirt contrasted with the tight black jeans she'd put on that morning, an old pair of converse a contrast to Sinclairs outdoor ready shoes.

While Marci scrutinized those around her, Mjorn settled behind her. Another pokemon spoke to Sterbin and Creeper, a deep purple sableye that appeared to know his P's and Q's around creatures superior to himself. Marci regarded Zayne and Eloise as people above anyone else, and as superiors, their pokemon logically would be above the common rabble.

Ylva nodded politely to the teacher and sighed inwardly. Looking down at her lap, she played with a pen, flipping it between her fingers. The door opened and closed but she ignored it. The class room was filling with people she didn't know, so she didn't bother with looking around. 
The short girl's head pounded and throbbed for a second cause she was over-thinking a few things, shaking them off though, she smacked the shaking ball with a growl. Lariat could wait. He was big, to big to just let out into this classroom.
She looked over to the Zoroark though, interested in the dark type fox. She had only seen one once and didn't really know much about them.. only that they were rare and you don't see them around mines all that often. Maybe cause of the fighting types that inhabited the areas, companions of the miners she worked with. That was the only thing that really caught her interest in the moment. She hated being early to classes, and Lariat always had to make it worse by never letting her sleep in.


Lariat bit his attitude and settled down, listening to the noises of the class room angrily. He wasn't all to happy with being stuck in the ball.

   Creeper was fidgeting a bit, and Sterben's zipper mouth curved upwards just a little in satisfaction. That meant that yes, Drescher was just as ill at ease as always when he brought the Mr. Mime. Good, served him right for making Zayne's life so miserable. Still, he was bored already; after all, it hardly mattered if he paid attention anyway. No point, not in Drescher's stupid class.

     Sterben, true to form, gently tugged on his sleeve, and no doubt was going to offer one of the larger pins or needles he kept stored in his tail pouch.  After all, one of his favorite students to cause problems for was sitting right there, right in front of him. Additionally, while Zayne didn't wish any ill on the other boy's pokèmon, the fact that the Gligar was distracted by other students getting too close, meant it was that much easier to get a quick 'jab' in as it were. 

    Their plans, however, were thwarted. even if only unintentionally. Sterben was the first to notice, and the ghost pokèmon could hardly believe his eyes.  Just what was -he- doing here? No, this was not the way it should be, not at all.  The animated plushie had no chance to think of some way to deal with the matter, before Ransom spoke.  Zayne was equally surprised by the other's presence, and for a moment just stared up at the other boy. Wait, what had he asked? 

      "No... no one sits there usually", he answers softly. 'Tell him he can't sit there, tell him to get lost', came that internal voice that popped up when the other made him feel a bit squirmy.  Yet, there was something about the other boy that made it hard for him to summon his usual mannerisms, at least in so far as directing them at the other boy. "...Did... you want to sit with me?", he asks with equally lowered tones. It occurred to him, though not as much in words as in feelings, he didn't want the big guy in front of him hearing him voice such a thing. No, that guy didn't need to know he could tolerate the Asian; something bad would surely come of it. 

   Forsythe had brought Sterben back to the present by this time, and the malicious little ghost type's chest and shoulders heaved just a bit, in what was a sigh no doubt.  Well, it was what passed as a sigh, as Sterben wasn't the sort of being that drew breath.  He might as well accept that they were going to be sitting with them. After all, he couldn't cause too much trouble, not in a room full of stupid dark types, especially that irritating canine belonging to the instructor.  The only dark type he didn't mind was the one that belonged to Marci, that was it.  Well... maybe Forsythe wasn't so bad, but that was likely because he was also a ghost type. 

    ~It's the psychic. I let him tag along when I brought my child here...~ began the not exactly disembodied 'voice'  ~It belongs to the couple of idiots that are always at the place we came from. They hardly paid attention to it, since they were always 'enjoying themselves' or laying about in their own messes looking dead.  So, I let it tag along with us, though I often ask myself why.  It's so useless ~  Sterben was hardly the social sort typically, but he didn't fail to take this opportunity to put 'the psychic' down. He wasn't about to let the other forget that, technically he was Zayne's parents' pokèmon, not that any official at the school knew this, but Sterben knew.

   Maybe it was odd, that he also did make it sound like he had done the other a favor, even while he insulted the other, and so nonchalantly brought up bits and pieces of his former, and certainly better forgotten life.  He could do that quite readily when it was about Creeper, it wasn't something he would say about his child though. No, the things that happened to his child weren't for idle conversation.  Of course, he also really should try to remember that there was now a human he had to worry about 'hearing' what he had to say. 

   "That is the human that can hear you speak isn't it? He is likely to figure things out about Zayne, if you go into too much detail about our past", offered Creeper in soft, weary tones. He hadn't suppressed the sigh before hand either.  Sterben was a vicious thing, and he hated sharing.  Creeper knew this was part of the reason he was particularly nasty towards him; still, that didn't exactly make it easy to deal with on a nearly constant basis. 

   ~Never you mind about -my- child~ He certainly wasn't going to admit that he tended to forget to guard his words when Ransom was around. The ghost wasn't used to having to worry about humans understanding him, and Ransom tended to be a fairly unassuming person... most of the time.  That was when he noticed a familiar corporeal being heading their way. Sterben was pleased, Mjorn and Marci were a welcomed pair to turn up.  Too bad Eloise still wasn't in this class.  That was something Creeper could have seconded.  Eloise was always kind to him, and Sterben didn't pointedly dissuade her from giving him attention, as he did with Zayne.

    ~Mjorn... good, with you and your girl here, maybe this class won't be so bad. ~  There was a brief pause in which Sterben seemed to consider something. Finally, he seemed to come to a conclusion, and absently gestured towards the Sableye. ~This is Forsythe~, he offers in offhanded indifference. Of course, if he was completely indifferent, he probably wouldn't have made any note of the other's presence to Mjorn.

    His pokèmon weren't the only ones to notice the new arrival.  Zayne's gaze slipped over to focus a bit more fully on Marci, before he offered her a silent dip of his head in greeting.  His lashes lowered just a bit, and he maintained his neutral visage. Really though, Zayne felt conflicted.  On one hand he did want Marci and Eloise around as often as possible.  However, this class made that something to be uneasy about too, and now, with Ransom here, there were whole new reasons for that fact.

Tiny swatted at the Flareon's nose as it tried to flip her over, growling playfully and being sure to keep her claws to herself like Giggles had taught her. He said they hurt so she didn't use them unless she had to or she forgot.  

Three more students walked in one after the other. First, a tall asian boy who moved to sit with the trainer of the bannette. They seemed friendly enough and Brooke wondered if her move to sit next to the only other student she knew was a good idea. Sure, Ylva was great, but the tall boy with the gligar was rather attractive and sitting all alone. An inward sigh and a short growl from Giggles signaled the end of her musing.

He already didn't like the idea of Brooke being in the same room with the notoriously aggressive bannette, but then more people entered the room with their pokemon. He couldn't let Brooke stay here unless he could be sure she wasn't in danger. Sure, the teacher had a bunch of pokemon in the room, but he didn't trust the man to keep his girl safe. Giggles rumbled a bit in his large chest before proudly stalking around the room. He kept his eye on the bannette and three others that crowded around him as if his minions. It might be a good idea to let the ghost type know his place, but the classroom, surrounded by students and other pokemon probably wasn't the best place to do it.

She watched Giggles "patrol" the room and rolled her eyes. Why did he have to be so damned protective? It's not like she was prone to getting herself in trouble, nor was she helpless. She wrestled with bronzors for god's sake. It seemed that Ylva was preoccupied with her musings and hadn't even noticed her so instead of bothering the girl more, Brooke grabbed her bag moved a few seats over to sit next to the tall boy directly in front of Mr. Drescher. She'd seen the gligar puff up and refuse to move for another student, so she sat to the other side. "Hi there. I'm Brooke." She smiled at the two pokemon resting under his desk before extending a hand and the words in greeting, hopefully interrupting his pencil sport.

[Christof Drescher]

    With Christof mostly recovered, Shattenblitz made his way back over to settle with Nitro. The two of them conversed with one another about upcoming goings on with the pack, and their Christof.  After a moment of this though, Nitro's gaze moved back over to the pair playing with the little shinx cub.  There was nothing wrong with a bit of fun, but soon it would be time to get down to business, and Cerberus wasn't the best at paying mind to when that was.  Sure, Christof could call them to order, and Cerberus would be quick to obey, but the Jolteon preferred to do what he could to keep order.  

     "Start winding down", offered the Jolteon sternly, satisfied with the brief flick in the ears of the Flareon and Vaporeon  back and down just a bit in silent acknowledgement of their submission to their higher ranking packmate.  After a few more gentle nips and softening playful growls, both pok mon offered the electric feline a lick, Cerberus wagging his tail just a bit, while Nephthyus twitched the tips of his fin, before settling down and looking to their Christof to see what he was up to, and what he would be doing.  

   Good, things were finally starting to calm down. Aphrodite certainly didn't abide the rough housing, as the Espeon continued her study of the room at large, silent paws carried the canine about gracefully.  Her gaze fell on the rather serious looking houndoom. Many psychic types would have been put off by the presence of a dark type, but then again, she was quite accustomed to the Umbreons in her pack, especially Shattenblitz, who was second only to Nitro (and of course Christof ). He seemed on edge, the other canine particularly wary of the Banette.  Well, he couldn't be blamed for that, she herself had noted the trouble that ghost seemed to like to cause.

    Not the least bit worried of what he might do or think, Aphrodite absently moved along the classroom in Giggles' general direction.  If the dog pokèmon didn't move away, she would pass him by, seeming to pay him no mind, except for the way the tips of her fork tail flicked up against the underside of the houndoom's chin. 

   Finally, Christof stood, gaze briefly taking in the placement of his pokèmon, pleased that all seemed to be in order. Though, he was a bit surprised to see Aphrodite initiating interactions with one of the student's pokèmon. She tended to be a bit lofty, and didn't typically seek touch often, and when she did she was rather particular about it.  Well, there was time to consider the motivations of one of his most finicky pokèmon later. For now, there were students to deal with. 

    Walking by, he offered notebooks and the same pencil and pen sets he did to students on their first day silently, though of course, only the new students would be in need of them.  They could find out from their fellows where they could be resupplied with what they would need for this class. Notebooks and pencils weren't the only thing he had on him though. As he passed by Mr. Van Etten's (Sinclair) desk, his hand slipped into the pocket of his jacket, reemerging to lightly, and quite covertly place a rubix 'cube' pyramid puzzle before the fidgety student, the colors already mixed so that one would have to deal with sorting it out so the sides were properly monochrome once more. 

     "I will be collecting your work from last class later.  Today, you will be pairing up to work with one another.  I want you to observe what you can about the other's pokèmon. If you are paired with a student from previous classes, observe the one they took notes on.  Then, you will compare what you have observed with what the other student has, see what you have noticed that is the same and what is different.  For our next class we will be discussing different ways to structure the study of pokèmon species, and will be turning in last class' work, as well as your observations on your partner's pokèmon, and the comparison of your findings. You may feel free to continue with the assignment outside of class, but this class period will be used for this purpose. Those of you who are partnered with someone who wasn't here to do the previous assignment may simply discuss the findings" Christof had offered brief pauses between the points of his instructions, giving the students time to absorb what he had to say. However, at this point a longer pause was given. Throughout his tone had remained firm, as Christof wouldn't tolerate students getting restless while he was giving out instructions. Telling students what was to be done was never an invitation to get going before he was finished speaking to them. 

    "Once I have paired you up, we will be heading outside, for those that have pokèmon that won't do well in a crowded classroom" He would, of course, have to choose somewhere with adequate shading for those that wouldn't care for any daylight that might trouble them, but the cloud cover would likely help with that. As it was still winter, there wasn't any quickly available open water, still it was a mild day, cold enough to keep the snow, but warm enough that more was falling in large, intermingled groups of flakes.  Any used to the winter wouldn't want for a coat, and even pokèmon from warmer environments should be fine for awhile. "Any of you that aren't properly prepared or are sensitive to the cold may stop by your dorms for warmer wears, but if you are not prompt and return within ten minutes, the points for your work this day will be docked, if you take much longer than that you will be marked as having skipped the class."  They weren't kidding when they said Drescher was a no nonsense sort of teacher. "Mr. Takahashi (Ransom), you are the exception, you and your partner may remain indoors if it is your preference... I trust I can rely on you to act honorably and see to the work you and your partner are meant to be doing." 

   Some might have thought it would be to get rid of the Mr. Mime, nothing could be further from the truth though. Christof knew, for one, that Mr. Takahashi  was a student he could count on to do as he should without him being present. He was also a patient, unassuming boy, he would pair well with Mr. Maddox (Zayne).  Then there was Mr. Maddox himself, the boy had enough trouble writing, having a desk would be helpful to him, not to mention, he figured that both Maddox and their pokèmon would benefit from the quieter atmosphere. He couldn't always make accommodations like this, but for this instance it wouldn't hurt. 

   That all being said, he would pair the students up. First there was Ransom and Zayne. Hopefully the lesson would have more meaning for Mr. Maddox if he got to work with another ghost type. Secondly Brooke and Stephen, as he liked the type mix among their pokèmon, Mr. Chabet favored water types, it would do him some good to learn a bit about a type that was strong against his own and Ms. Kinsey might benefit from the same, at least when it came to her dark/fire type. Besides, they were both new, so the both of them were on equal standing with the prior assignment. Then there was Ylva and Marci; he knew Ms. St. Pierre had a bit of a reputation among the students, but he had confidence that the miner girl would be able to handle herself quite well.  He couldn't be sure, but she seemed like the sort who could handle herself, and she certainly had an impressive enough pokèmon to help her feel confident in the face of those that might try to make trouble for her.  Other students (NPCS) were also pair, and that left the odd number meaning there was one student remaining.  Sinclair would be working with him directly, something he stated neutrally, as if it were merely a matter of numbers, truthfully, he wanted a chance to observe this student a bit more closely. He wanted to better gauge him, separately from his record.  Besides, he wouldn't be challenged by any pokèmon in the room, Mr. Van Etten represented a living thing he didn't yet understand. It would be easier to remain engaged.

[Ransom Takahashi]

Zayne's responses to his friendly greetings always surprised and perplexed him as really, Ransom couldn't quite understand why the other seemed to find it so surprising he should seek out his company. It was true that Zayne was not a person known for being pleasant, or even all that friendly at all. Certainly plenty of people had told him to simply stay away from him because not only was /he/ unpleasant, but his friends were as well. Ransom wasn't one of the sorts of people to take directions from others well, though...at least not when it came to him forming his own opinions about people and things. He might not always voice them, but they were firmly rooted in his mind and that was how they'd remain until he was personally given a reason to change them. So far, this blonde boy had done nothing to see to it. Sure his bannette didn't seem to like him much, but Sterben was entitled to his opinion as much as anyone, and Ransom had promised he'd try to tune him out so he could feel safe and say what he wanted. Even if some of the things the bannette had to say were a bit disturbing.

In fact, at this last little bit of information, Ransom couldn't help but frown subtly - a brief shift in his attention presenting itself by way of a darting of eyes towards the ghost pokemon in question. It certainly didn't sound like Zayne's home was a pleasant place, and the idea of such a thing made him feel just a bit sad - and not in a pitying sort of fashion but merely because he hated to hear that this pretty young man might suffer when he was anywhere else but the school. Not to mention it certainly explained a good deal of what he'd been told about him, and brought Zayne's actions and reactions into a rather different sort of perspective, and made it easier to understand that - if the things he'd heard were true - why he was the way he was. Even if Ransom's own suffering hadn't managed the same effect...a thing he easily attributed to having even those few years with his Sofu alive and well. 


The frown disappeared nearly as quickly as it arrived, and he focused his attention back on the human boy before him, an easy smile curving his lips. "I would, thank you.", he said quietly, offering a polite nod of head before taking a seat at the nearby desk and settling into his habit of simply listening to what the teacher said. It was perhaps a bit difficult to concentrate, what with the sound of the pencil making it's way the particularly large student's desk, but he managed it easily enough...and even managed to offer Mr. Drescher a brief smile in thanks as supplies were handed out. 


Forsythe himself chose to both listen and observe, the sableye's large gem-like eyes seeming to take in the room as a whole even as he paid precise attention to the things the bannette said. If he were prone to facial expressions that displayed the things he felt, he might be frowning as well as, much like Ransom, the idea of any human suffering saddened him - and it was even more so because this boy was someone his Ransom had taken a liking to. Oh, he was sure his human had no inkling it was so obvious, but from the point of view of one who had been given the opportunity to see their human even through their growing years...well, he knew the signs well enough. There had been a few times previously where Ransom had displayed such signals, though those times nothing had been done about it save for the occasionally offered shy smile or quick glances. This boy was different though. His Ransom seemed to seek him out when he could, and well, Forsythe couldn't help but think that was nice.

~"It is a shame that you were so neglected, Psychic."~ Forsythe said politely,  his tones stern and cool but still entirely free of judgement as he briefly shifted his eyes to the bannette. Forsythe wasn't scolding Sterben precisely, but he didn't see the call for treating the Mr. Mime so poorly...at least he didn't see the call for it beyond the rather obvious reason of Sterben simply being the sort of pokemon to have a rather jealous and possessive nature. A nature that really couldn't be helped. A faint smile hovered at the corners of his lips as he switched back to the Mr. Mime, his little gremlin-esque head tilting to the side as he studied the other. ~"But it is perhaps a good thing you both have a human like your Zayne. Who understands that you are good, and takes care of you, yes?"~ 


Forsythe's voice trailed off as the houndoom trailed by, the dark/fire type's eyes likely meant to be burning holes right through the trio. The sableye met that gaze with the same sobriety he met everyone else's - his expression stern and calm and ever-steady. He wasn't one to start a fight, well...certainly not with a pokemon that just appeared to be getting the lay of the land, but he'd be keeping an eye on that houndoom just in case it got any ideas. It wasn't likely that there was terribly much he could do...but it wasn't in Forsythe's nature to stand idly by while others were terrorized either. Soon enough though his attention would be shifted again, the name 'Mjorn' coming from Sterben's lips met with a quick turning of head to face the Zoroark - though he did have to look considerably far up. 

~"A pleasure to know you, I'm sure."~, came the rather serious sounding voice of the sableye, even he gradually took in the rest of the considerably taller pokemon before settling his gaze briefly beyond the other to the girl he appeared to be with. Ransom actually found himself doing the same, his gaze shifting to the girl with a smile of greeting on his lips. Perhaps the Asian boy was about to say something along the lines of hello as, after all, it was in his nature to be friendly even when others weren't, but then the teacher called things to order and Ransom's attention snapped immediately to the front of the room...and Forsythe wasted little time in clamboring up onto his human's lap to do the same. 


It didn't surprise him to hear about this pairing up business...but it did surprise him to learn that Zayne would be the one he was partnered with. His lashes lowered to neatly folded hands, the rather strange urge to blush presenting itself but one that was held back as he simply nodded in acceptance, then darted a brief but curious glance Zayne's way to see if this bothered him. He couldn't say why, but he seemed to make the smaller blond uncomfortable - and though he didn't get the impression that it was in a negative way, he did have to wonder what the reason behind that discomfort was. 


His eyes turned back to Mr. Drescher once more as he was addressed, and a brief nod was given. "Yes Sir.", he said in soft but respectful tones, a bit of a grin on his lips. Forsythe was also pleased by this as sometimes being outside amidst all the bright lights could still be a bit perturbing for him. It was true that his life had not been spent entirely in the caves that his kind typically lived in, but he was still a bit light sensitive anyway.
